Ultimate Dynasty Bowl III

This is the moment
When all I've done
All the dreaming
Scheming and screaming become one

It's already Ultimate Dynasty Bowl III weekend somehow. A season that seemingly flew by and has left the majority of us in disappointment, now comes down to one final game. A game where one team will capture the league's ultimate prize and their place in Ultimate Dynasty history. While the losing team will be left to wonder what might have been as the pain of coming so close lingers over them for the next seven months.

This is the game of all games, and it goes without saying this is the biggest game in both franchises' history, but before forecasting a result, let's recap how they got one win away from the top of the mountain.

How they got here: Scott's Tots - A year after finishing 11-2-1 in the regular season and securing the #1 seed only to get upset in the divisional round, the Tots kept the majority of their core together hoping that a returning from injury Julio would be enough to put them over the top... so far it seems like they were right. The Tots ravaged the league putting together another 11 win season (on the back of a 5 game win streak to close out the year)  while also winning their 2nd consecutive division title. They returned to the playoffs in a very familiar position as the #1 seed matched up against a division rival that had swept him in the regular season. While the Tots didn't put up their best game, their streak of having no opponent score 100 or more points against them continued and that was enough to punch a ticket into their first ever Ultimate Dynasty Bowl.

How they got here: I Don't Get Tired - What an amazing season it was for Kory Adams and the I Don't Get Tired franchise. After failing to make the playoffs the first two seasons and seemingly always playing second fiddle to the Miami Sharks in their division, I Don't Get Tired just took over in 2014. The 11 win club led by superstars Murray, AJG, and Gronk jumped out of the gate on a 10 game win streak and a historic 10-0 start. There were rumblings of a perfect season all around the league, but whether the pressure got to him or variance had a way of catching up with his squad they proceeded to drop their next three games (including one against the Tots) before finishing the regular season with a win and sweep of the rival Sharks. They then proceeded to draw a terrible match up that saw them going up against CLO Collins' 3 time playoff, suddenly peaking, juggernaut of a squad. Most people, myself included, viewed Kory Adams as the underdog and thought his 10-0 start would be a nice story and footnote of the 2014 season, but be all for not. I Don't Get Tired had other ideas posting a convincing 111-84 postseason victory and secured their spot in Ultimate Dynasty Bowl III.

#2 I Don't Get Tired (11-3) VS #1 Scott's Tots (11-3)
All Time H2H Regular Season (2-1 Tots)
All Time H2H Post Season (First Meeting)

Scott's Tots: QB Tom Brady - Terrific Tom gets an unbelievable match up on paper against the struggling Jets' pass defense. The same pass defense he lit up for 261 yards and 3 TD's on a rainy Thursday night earlier in the year. However with that being said this game is in New York, a divisional game, and Rex Ryan isn't your typical lame duck head coach. I still think Brady should light it up with ease.

I Don't Get Tired: QB Drew Brees - The guy that used to own the Super Dome has actually been very up and down as of late. A match up against Atlanta should be just what the doctor ordered though. While the Falcons did hold him to just 15 points on opening day, I would be shocked if he came out of this one with less than 20.

Edge: Close to saying it would be a push, but I think Brees edges Brady out and should light up Atlanta.

Scott's Tots: HB1 Matt Forte - Forte has been a consistent force this year for the Tots, but it seems as just when they need him the most he may not be able to deliver. Having a downright awful match up against Detroit, and now having The Jimmy as his quarterback...Let's just say it's going to be tough sledding for this man Sunday.

I Don't Get Tired: HB1 Demarco Murray - Just as the Tots are having trouble with their lead man in the backfield, IDGT is having some issues as well. While it looks like from what I've seen Murray will be suiting up this Sunday, you have to think a broken hand will reduce his touches, and it's probably going to be tough to be as effective. Bright side is Indy's run defense is nothing to write home about and Dallas should have some goaline opportunities in this one.

Edge: Give me the man with the broken hand over the guy that has Clausen as his QB and is running against Suh and co. any day of the week.

Scott's Tots: HB2 Eddie Lacy - Fat Eddie is going to eat against Tampa this Sunday. The only question is just how much will McCarthy let him eat playing in a game that should be a laugher while a pivotal division championship game hangs on the horizon in week 17.

I Don't Get Tired: HB2 Jonathan Stewart - Who would have ever dreamed JStew would be the HB2 for a team in the Ultimate Dynasty Bowl this year. I know I wouldn't have, but as crazy as it seems he's a very solid HB2 with a nice match up against Cleveland...go figure.

Edge: Fat Eddie. If JStew outscores Lacy this Sunday then you will know there is no way the Tots captured a championship.

Scott's Tots: FLEX Brandon LaFell - Again I ask, who in their wildest dreams would ever have thought LaFell would be starting for an Ultimate Dynasty Bowl team. Well he is, and again he is not the worst start in the world this Sunday against a leaky Jets' secondary (also the possibility of no Edelman can only help).

I Don't Get Tired: FLEX Julian Edelman - There are questions of whether Edelman would be able to go, in which case I guess Kory would break out SJAX for what could be his final relevant fantasy game ever. Let's assume Edelman is able to go, I'm not the biggest fan. While he has been more than solid the last few games his floor is frighteningly low and his ceiling doesn't get me going either.

Edge: Somehow I think I'd rather have LaFell...I think.

Scott's Tots: WR1 Jordy Nelson - When you have to debate who to put at WR1 and WR2, you know the team is either stacked at WR or mediocre. In this case it is without a doubt stacked. Nelson missed out on some big plays against Buffalo's stingy pass defense, but don't look for that to be the case against a much weaker Tampa Bay unit.

I Don't Get Tired: WR1 AJ Green - Dealing with an illness this week (if Dalton was my QB I'd be sick too) AJG is still without a doubt top notch play at the position. While he draws an unfavorable match up against Talib, the Bengals do figure to throw a little more than usual and take some shots down field plus AJG is capable of beating any corner in this league multiple times any given Sunday.

Edge: Give me the better match up and the guy with Rodgers as his QB.

Scott's Tots: WR2 Julio Jones - Superstar in a fantastic match up, especially since Lewis seems to still be hobbled. The only problem is Julio is a little hobbled himself, however if he plays I expect him to be a solid WR1 in this match up.

I Don't Get Tired: WR2 Vincent Jackson - VJax's better days have come and gone and he now currently resides in an offense that can only support one WR and unfortunately he's not it. While he is still a serviceable option (kind of) he has failed to scored double digit fantasy points in 8 of his last 9 games.

Edge: I don't even have to say it, but I'd take Julio on one leg over VJax on a motorcycle. (If no Julio then Douglas and VJax are pretty much a tie at sucking and I guess I go Douglas)

Scott's Tots: TE1 Jordan Reed - Reed has a nice match up and is capable of posting big days from the tight end slot. However the Skins are a mess and I think RG3 hates him so I wouldn't count on him exploding in this match up.

I Don't Get Tired: TE1 Rob Gronkowski - The man the myth the legend.

Edge: The Gronk of course.

Scott's Tots: Defense Bills - Coming off shutting down Rodgers, the Bills should be fantastic against Carr and the Raiders.

I Don't Get Tired: Defense Cardinals - The Cards are arguably one of Kory's most valuable players. Their floor is consistent and they've got nice upside, what more could you want in a defense.

Edge: Very close but I'll go with Buffalo.

Kicker I don't care but I guess Tucker is the better start.

The Pick: Both squads have had amazing seasons and are deserving of a championship. However there can only be one....

I'll take Scott's Tots in one heck of a game 100-99.

UDFFL DIVISIONAL ROUND PREVIEW

It's that time of year again, the playoffs are back! Who will capture the elusive Ultimate Dynasty Bowl Championship this year? One thing is for sure we'll have a new champion for 2014!

First let's meet the contenders...

#1 Scott's Tots 11-3 - (No UDFFL Championships or Appearances)  (2nd playoff appearance in 3 seasons), (0-1 Playoff Record)                                                                                                                        Coming off their 2nd consecutive #1 seed and 11 win regular season, the Tots hope to avoid a repeat of last year (that saw them lose to a #4 seed UFL Divisional rival for the 3rd time in one season). Tray boasts an even stronger team than last year, with Julio Jones and Tom Brady added to the fold, but is running into injuries at the wrong time of the year.

While the injury bug is hitting hard (Marshall IR, Harvin Q, Lacy Q, Julio Q), anything less than a championship appearance would still be a huge disappointment for these Tots.

#2 I Don't Get Tired 11-3 - (No UDFFL Championships or Appearances)                                                                                        (1st playoff appearance in 3 seasons), (0-0 Playoff Record)                                                                                                                               After opening the season a historic 10-0, people began to wonder whether an undefeated season could be possible. Since then the bottom has dropped out a little bit going 1-3 over the final four weeks of the season and even falling out of the #1 seed. IDGT has some holes but they without a doubt have the fire power to get a trophy on their mantle.

Even though a 10-0 start has gotten Kory all over the record books, an early playoff exit would make it (and the fantastic seasons of Demarco and Gronk) all for not.

#3 CLO Collins 8-6 - (No UDFFL Championships or Appearances)                                                                               (3rd playoff appearance in 3 seasons), (0-2 Playoff Record)                                                                                                                 In what was a roller coaster of a season that saw the Collins franchise sitting at 3-6 at one point, it is truly remarkable that he was able to punch a record third postseason ticket. CLO now is hoping that the third time is the charm, as he sits in the divisional round as the #3 seed yet again.

CLO looks strong but he has averaged only 74.5 points all time in the playoffs. You have to think yet another one and done postseason performance would be devastating to the man behind the Ferguson riots.

#4 Super Manning 10-4 (No UDFFL Championships or Appearances)(1st playoff appearance in 3 seasons), (0-0 Playoff Record)                                                                                                                                            Many, myself included, thought that Super Manning missed their championship window last season. However it appears that him and Peyton found a way to keep it just slightly cracked open for 2014. They're 2-0 against the Tots this year but dropped both of their games against their possible championship opponents. None of that matters now though as Phil preps for the biggest game in his franchise's history.

With an older core and having put all their chips into the middle of the table Phil needs to come away with an Ultimate Dynasty Bowl Championship THIS year.

Interesting Playoff Facts That Might Mean Something but Probably Mean Nothing
Ridiculously Small Sample Size

- The only team to ever win the UDFFL is the Miami Sharks, meaning the NFL Division is the only division to ever win the UDFFL. (Good for IDGT)

- The only two teams to ever make the UDFFL Bowl are the Sharks and Lions, meaning the AFL Division has never had a UDFFL Bowl representative or won a playoff game. (Bad for CLO)

- No double digit win team has ever won the UDFFL Championship. (Great news for CLO)

- After two seasons, the UDFFL Bowl has always been the #2 and #4 seed (Great news for IDGT and SM).

- No team that was not created in Apartment K at UNCW has ever made the UDFFL (Great news for CLO and SM).

Divisional Round Predictions

4. Super Manning 10-4 AT 1. Scott's Tots 11-3

Scott's Tots when healthy may very well be the best team in Ultimate when healthy, but this team is far from healthy. They also don't have the best match ups and are coming off a week where it seemed like everyone on the team hit their peak. Enter Super Manning who is relatively healthy and has many of his studs coming off some of their worst performances of the year, and it makes for a very intriguing game.

My mind tells me to take the Tots as long as both Lacy and Julio play at close to 100%, but I've got a feeling Peyton has at least one more big time performance and lights it up to DT and JT. After a lot of debate, give me Super Manning 102-100 in a game that goes down to the final minutes of Monday Night Football.

3. CLO Collins 8-6 AT 2. I Don't Get Tired 11-3

Two great friends pitted against each other with an Ultimate Dynasty Bowl berth on the line. It doesn't get much better than this.Kory balled out all season, but he is, unfortunately for him, trending down. While CLO struggled mightily at times during the season, he now seems to be on fire averaging a ridiculous 111.8 ppg over his last five.

On paper this one seems like CLO should take it, but once you look at the match ups and start thinking of Charles at less than 100% it starts to seem a lot closer. Bottom line if Charles doesn't play give me IDGT by 7-10 points, but if he does look for this to follow suit the Tots-Manning game and go down to the wire Monday Night with Drew Brees having a huge performance that comes up just short with IDGT losing, 111-108. (Sunday Night is also going to be huge in this one) (Kory please don't start James Jones)

Ultimate Dynasty Bowl III

4. Super Manning AT 3. CLO Collins

Apartment K with yet another championship match up, but I think if I'm right on this call then we're in for yet another championship blow out. Peyton/DT/JT are the heart and soul of Phil's squad but they get a terrible match up against Cincy, while his stud back Lynch gets the stingy Cardinal's run defense. CLO on the other hand is looking at pretty soft match ups for his studs and I think he takes this one in pretty convincing fashion and is your Ultimate Dynasty Bowl III champion!
